The Kneipp-Bund eV is the umbrella organization of around 600 Kneipp clubs with around 160,000 members based in Bad Wörishofen in the Unterallgäu district .

It is non-profit and worthy of funding, not party or denominational, and feels committed to the Christian-humanist image of man. Pastor Sebastian Kneipp (1821 to 1897) made the holistic approach ("Lead a healthy life in harmony with nature and in this way actively prevent and find healing") as the basis of his healing methods. From the original water and herbal medicine, a recognized natural healing method arose, which is based on the five elements water, exercise, medicinal plants, nutrition and lifestyle. President is Klaus Holetschek , Member of the State Parliament, Federal Managing Director is Thomas Hilzensauer.

In the Kneipp center, guidelines are drawn up for companies and institutions that work according to the healthy method and would like to receive official recognition for this (day-care centers and schools, health establishments, guest houses, health centers, institutions for the elderly, campsites). Certificates are awarded from Bad Wörishofen, compliance with the guidelines is monitored and projects are initiated that promote people's health. A shop with health products, a spa hotel and a training facility, the Sebastian Kneipp Academy, are connected. Two magazines are produced in the Kneipp center: the members' magazine “ Kneipp Journal ” and the “Kneipp Kindergarten”.

External companies of the Kneipp Association are another spa hotel in the Kneipp spa town of Bad Lauterberg in the Harz Mountains and a training facility, the Sebastian Kneipp School in Bad Wörishofen. The association has a representative in the capital, the Berlin office. It ensures that prevention is recognized as an important value in all relevant bodies - and in the consciousness of society as a whole.

history

On August 24, 1897 - about ten weeks after the death of Sebastian Kneipp (May 17, 1821 to June 17, 1897) - the Kneipp Association was founded. A Kneipp association in Berlin and a Kneipp association in Wörishofen existed side by side. During the First World War, the association and club activities were almost completely suspended. In 1921, the Wörishofener and Berlin associations merged. In the 1930s, the Kneipp movement already had around 50,000 members. Between 1940 and 1945, the Kneipp Association was incorporated into the "Reichsarbeitsgemeinschaft der Associations für Naturausbildung und Heilweise" or the "German Health Association" after several renaming. After the end of the war, all associations and clubs were dissolved by the occupying powers.

The re-establishment of the Kneipp Association took place in October 1949, the headquarters were again in Bad Wörishofen. The Kneipp movement was slow to get going again, but by the end of the 1950s it had around 50,000 members again. After moving to Munich again in 1968, the Kneipp Association has been based in Bad Wörishofen again since 1987. A new field of activity arose for the Kneipp Association through reunification. In the new federal states, numerous Kneipp clubs with almost 6000 members were founded. In 2002 the Kneipp Association opened its representation in the capital, the “Office for Health and Prevention” now: Berlin Office.

In December 2015, “Kneipp therapy as traditional knowledge and practice based on the teachings of Sebastian Kneipp” was included in the nationwide register of intangible cultural heritage by the German Commission for UNESCO . The Kneipp Association, together with the City of Bad Wörishofen and the Association of Kneipp Spas and Kneipp Spas, submitted a joint application.

The international Kneipp movement has also been organized in the Kneipp Worldwide association since 1962 . It consists of the Kneipp associations of Germany and Switzerland and other European countries as well as individual members from a total of 27 countries.
