Kneuss is the title of a feature film based on the crime novel of the same name by Beat Brechbühl , published in 1970 . Gaudenz Meili directed the 1978 Swiss-German co-production . The world premiere took place on October 23, 1978 in the “ Frosch-Kino ” in Zurich . The film was shot in Zurich, Bern, Murten and Venice.
action
Kneuss is an eccentric. He had his childhood friend Schnaffelmann hire him as a consultant in his advertising agency. During a visit to Schnaffelmann's house, he recognized his childhood sweetheart Cäcilie Bucher in his wife Cécile; and between Kneuss and Cécile, who was frustrated in their marriage, the old familiarity re-emerges very quickly. Kneuss notices that Schnaffelmann is using the advertising agency to camouflage his drug trafficking activities.
criticism
The Neue Zürcher Zeitung of December 16, 1978 wrote:
“After the novel by Beat Brechbühl, but dramatically changing it, Gaudenz Meili has now made his second major feature film after ' Der Stumme '. He dealt with the material so independently that there can be no question of a literary film adaptation. From the hero Kneuss, who is a 'Reiner' at Brechbühl, an ideologically rigid refuser, Meili has made a rather broken, dodgy man who is neither clearly formulated in his resistance nor really suitable for the rebellion. Kneuss becomes so humanly tangible. "
The film lexicon summarizes:
“A story told in an entertaining way with aesthetic and critical ambitions. However, the film does not always succeed in providing people and events with a concrete reference to reality. "
background
The film was co-produced with a budget of 920,000 francs .
