Knudåge Riisager

Knudåge Riisager (born March 6, 1897 in Kunda , Estonia Governorate , Russian Empire , † December 26, 1974 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish composer.

Riisager was born into a Danish family in Estonia. His father Emil ran a cement factory in Kunda.

Riisager studied political science in Copenhagen and also music with Otto Malling and Peder Gram . He continued his musical training with Paul Le Flem and Albert Roussel in Paris . There he came into contact with the Groupe des Six and got to know the compositions of Igor Stravinsky . In 1932 he completed his training with Hermann Grabner in Leipzig.

From 1926 to 1947 Riisager was a civil servant in Copenhagen, from 1956 to 1967 he headed the conservatory . He composed stage and symphonic works, instrumental concerts, chamber music and songs and wrote several musicological works.
