Kohlstädt is a district of the community Schlangen in the district of Lippe in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

Kohlstädt was first mentioned around 1036 under the name Colstidi . The name Kohlstädt declares itself to be the site of coal. In the Middle Ages, charcoal was extracted from the Lippe forests .

In a document from 1365 the "coal sites" are reported, and coal piles smoked until the 1930s.

On January 1, 1970 Kohlstädt was incorporated into Schlangen. Today Kohlstädt has 1216 inhabitants as of December 31, 2018.

Hollow stone cave

Near the 433 meter high hollow stone lies the legendary hollow stone cave about 185 meters long, which was explored in 1779 . Like the Bielstein cave at Bauerkamp and the hatch hole, it was formed in the plow limestone.

Castle ruins

Next to the Strothe , which flows through the village, is the ruin of the Kleiner Herrenburg . The tower and supply yard with sturdy masonry was built around 1000 to 1200 AD, probably by the Schwalenberg counts . She controlled the old pass along the Strothe over the Teutoburg Forest with the intersection on the Sennehellweg. That is why it is a typical example of a customs and supply station with a pronounced defensive character from this period.

The nearest train stations are Horn-Bad Meinberg , about 10 kilometers and Paderborn Hauptbahnhof about 15 kilometers from Kohlstädt.
