Bunk layer comb

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kojen layer ridge is a chain of three elongated mountain ridges with a maximum height of 1391  m above sea level. NN on the northern edge of the Allgäu Alps . It is the western segment of the Prodel-Kojen layer comb, interrupted by the outflow of the Weißach , the northernmost of the three Allgäu Nagelfluh layer combs , and is roughly equally located in Vorarlberg / Austria and Bavaria / Germany .

geography

Although the mountain range is largely evenly high across its entire width, the character of the mountain range changes fundamentally from a southern perspective: in the west, the broad ridge of the Kojen mountain rises at around 1300  m above sea level. NN only very moderate from the plateau of the headwaters of the Lanzenbach . The Fluh rises much more clearly above the Lanzenbach valley, which has already been cut deeper there. The Imberg stands out clearly from this valley in the east and drops steeply over 500 m towards the breakthrough of the Weißach (Bregenzer Ach) . The southern flanks are regular and not very furrowed. Most of the original forests have been cleared in favor of alpine farms. Viewed from the north, the Kojen layer ridge is dominated by the western part of the high ridge chain behind it . Due to the geological structure, the terrain is far more irregular and has plateaus, hills and deep gullies. The northern flanks form the end of the Nagelfluh area and extend over a height of 650 m on the Imberg to 750 m on the Kojen, the western foothills of which runs very slowly towards Krumbach . While the summit regions and the steeper parcels of land remain largely closed, the flat areas and moderate slopes have largely been cleared and used for agriculture.

Geotopes

The Kojenstein is a single, free-standing ridge at the highest point of a broad ridge.

View from Riefensberg to the Kojenstein

The stratification of the Nagelfluh plate system and the incision of the Weißach becomes visible in the eastern flank of the Imberg. A hiking trail ( Jägersteig ) leads like a geological excursion path across this steep terrain.

mountains

Three mountains from the Kojen layer ridge are known by name, of which only two have a certain independence.

Imberg

The well-known ski and holiday resort of Steibis is located on a plateau on the northern slope of the 1325  m above sea level. NHN reach Imbergs in the northeast of the bunk-layer ridge. This is slightly offset to the south compared to the wider ridge line.

Fluh

The Fluh is 1391  m of the main peak in the mountain range and is also available at the center. It is populated on its north-facing plateaus and moderate slopes by the hamlets of Hagspiel and Schindelberg and in the valley of Aach , Krebs and Steinebach, as well as by numerous individual properties.

Bunk Mountain

Without a noticeable gap , but separated by the state border between Bavaria and Vorarlberg, which also runs over the ridge for a distance of about 500 m, the Fluh merges to the southwest into the ridge-like bunks , which still reach 1300  m . The Vorarlberg community of Riefensberg is located entirely on its northern flank . The western slope carries parts of the municipality of Krumbach ; its core location, however, lies at an average altitude of only 732  m beyond the Bolgenach valley , which limits the ridge to the southwest.
