Commissioner X

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Commissioner X was a series of detective novels published by the Pabel-Moewig publishing group . In the course of more than 30 years it brought 1,740 issues in the first edition. There was also a series of paperback books.

history

The figure of the "KX" was invented by Karl-Heinz Günther (pseudonym: CH Guenter), who also wrote fifty-eight notebooks and 51 paperbacks for the series between 1959 and 1966 as "Bert F. Island" . The first 622 booklets of novels all ran without exception under the publisher's pseudonym Bert F. Island (based on the then editor-in-chief Robert F. Atkinson, who came from the 'island' of Great Britain). Well-known authors such as Kurt Brand , Friedrich Tenkrat (alias AF Morland), Walter Appel (alias Earl Warren), Wolfpeter Ritter , Manfred Wegener , Alfred Bekker , Neal Davenport and Alfred Wallon also contributed to the series of novels . In over 3 decades a large number of German-speaking novelists wrote the series.

Due to insufficient sales, the series was discontinued in 1992 with volume 1740, "The Death Candidate" by Neal Chadwick alias Alfred Bekker. Like Mister Dynamit (also invented by CH Guenter for Pabel), “KX” did not survive the end of the Cold War and restructuring in the publishing house.

The crime series was the counterpart to Jerry Cotton from Bastei-Verlag and was made into a film just like this in the 1960s.

Content

The series played in New York City and many other locations around the world. Commissioner X is the private detective Jo Walker, who, together with his secretary and colleague April Bondy, as well as his friend and head of the Manhattan Homicide Squad, Captain Tom Rowland, put down a lot of gangsters and crooks. The middle name of "KX" is by the way 'Louis', so Jo (e) Louis , like the famous US heavyweight of the 1930s ('The Brown Bomber'), who boxed twice against Max Schmeling .

Film adaptations

A total of 7 Commissioner X films were shot between 1965 and 1971. Tony Kendall played Commissioner X and Brad Harris each played Captain Tom Rowland. These were international productions under the direction of the German producer Theo Maria Werner . The films were shown in the following order:
