Commission to review the financing of the nuclear phase-out

The commission to review the financing of the nuclear phase-out (KFK) was an expert commission set up by the federal government in October 2015 . Their task was to develop a solution proposal for the proper implementation of the nuclear phase-out . She presented her final report on April 27, 2016.

The commission was chaired by Jürgen Trittin (B90 / Greens, member of the Bundestag and former Federal Environment Minister), Matthias Platzeck (SPD, former Prime Minister of Brandenburg) and Ole von Beust (CDU, former First Mayor of Hamburg). The other members were:

Proposed solution

The commission unanimously agreed on a fund solution: the four nuclear companies are to pay 23.34 billion euros into a state fund for the interim and final storage of nuclear waste, so that the financing of the disposal is ensured. Decommissioning and dismantling of the nuclear facilities, however, remain the responsibility of the corporations. On June 1, 2016, the federal government decided to accept the recommendation of the KFK and draft a corresponding law.
