Eleven parties / electoral associations ran for local elections in 2019. The We Weißenfelser with six mandates and Die PARTTEI with one mandate are new to the city council . The right-wing extremist NPD is no longer represented on the city council.

The turnout increased by about eight percent in the 2019 local elections and rose

thus to 46.8%

Jörg Freiwald (parliamentary group DIE LINKE - Die PARTTEI) was re-elected as city council chairman.
