Confucius Peace Prize
The Confucius Peace Prize ( Chinese 孔子 和平 獎 / 孔子 和平 奖 , Pinyin Kǒngzǐ hépíng jiǎng ) is an award named after the Chinese philosopher Kong Fu Zi , which is given in the People's Republic of China at the beginning of December . It is intended to honor people who promote peace and peaceful understanding between peoples .
background
Western observers associate the introduction of this prize with the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to the Chinese civil rights activist Liu Xiaobo in 2010, which China strongly disapproved of . The Chinese Peace Prize is intended to counterbalance the award of the Nobel Peace Prize, which the Chinese government regards as “politically abused”. The Chinese government states that the award of the prize is intended to give the 1.3 billion Chinese "a greater voice on world peace".
Prize Committee
According to media reports, the Confucius Prize Committee consists of 16 Chinese personalities. Kong Qingdong (* 1964), a professor of Chinese literature and a direct descendant of Confucius in the 73rd generation, is one of the committee members .
