Konrad Fritze

Konrad Fritze (born August 8, 1930 in Bernburg (Saale) , † January 14, 1991 in Greifswald ) was a German historian .

Life

His father Richard Fritze (* 1887; † 1950) was a grammar school director and in 1949 became the first director of the workers and farmers faculty in Greifswald.

Konrad Fritze grew up in Greifswald. Here he attended the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Oberschule until 1949 . In 1949 he joined the SED . He first studied three semesters in Berlin, then from 1951 history at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald . He then worked here as a historian in assistant and lecturer positions. Fritze began his dissertation, completed in 1957, on "The economic and social development of Stralsund in the 13th and 14th centuries" under Adolf Hofmeister . He then qualified as a professor with "Studies on the economic and social history of Wendish Hanseatic cities in the first half of the 15th century", published in 1967 under the title "At the turning point of the Hanseatic League".

In 1969 he became a full professor of general history in Greifswald. From 1977 to 1982 and again from 1990 until his death he was director of the Historical Institute in Greifswald.

Fritze published numerous writings on the history of the city and the history of the Hanseatic League . Together with his Greifswald colleagues Johannes Schildhauer and Walter Stark , he published the book “Die Hanse”, which appeared in seven editions from 1974 to 1985 and was the standard work of Marxist historical research on Hanseatic history. He was a member of the editorial board of the yearbook for regional history and the yearbook for the history of feudalism .

Fritze was married and had two children.
