Konrad Handel

Konrad Handel (born October 28, 1909 in Rixdorf, today Berlin-Neukölln ; † November 11, 2003 in Waldshut-Tiengen ) was a German lawyer and author. He was the head of the Waldshut-Tiengen public prosecutor's office and the author of a commentary on the Code of Criminal Procedure and other well-read legal textbooks.

education and profession

After attending school in Delmenhorst , Handel studied law from 1928 at the universities of Berlin , Breslau and the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich . Even then, he was interested in forensic medicine and attended lectures. After graduating in 1935, he worked as a public prosecutor and judge in Berlin and Bavaria ; at times he was used in the penal system.

After serving in the Second World War and being an American prisoner of war, he worked temporarily in foreign professions before joining the Baden judicial service in 1950 . He worked as a public prosecutor in Mannheim , Karlsruhe , Pforzheim and Waldshut-Tiengen, where he was promoted to head of the public prosecutor's office and senior public prosecutor until his retirement in 1974 .

Professional interests

Handel was particularly interested in road traffic law, particularly at the interface with forensic medicine. He worked closely with representatives of this subject, including Joachim Rauschke . The result of this work were books and numerous articles in specialist journals (including blood alcohol ).

Memberships and Foundation

In 1997, Handel founded the Konrad Handel Prize , which was combined with the Prize of the German Society for Forensic Medicine and which it awards annually as the Konrad Handel Foundation Prize for forensic medical contributions of importance to the administration of justice or road safety

Handel continued Georg Schulz's comment on the code of criminal procedure for police officers in the investigation service, succeeding Paul Berke-Müller (known as "Schulz-Handel").
