Conrad III. (Oils)

Conrad III. of Oels (* 1354 /1359; † 28. December 1412 ) was from 1403 until his death in 1412 Duke of Oels , Cosel , Steinau and semi Bytom . He came from the Glogau branch of the Silesian Piasts .

Life

His parents were Konrad II of Oels and Agnes († 1371), a daughter of Duke Casimir I of Teschen . Around 1380 he married Jutta / Gutha († 1416/19), whose origin is unknown. The marriage had five sons and two daughters. Since the sons were all baptized with the first name "Konrad" like their father and grandfather, they were given individual surnames to differentiate them.

After the death of his father Konrad II in 1403, Konrad III, who had no other siblings, inherited his property. In 1410 he fought with his son Konrad VII for the Teutonic Order in the Battle of Tannenberg , where Konrad VII was taken prisoner by the Poles. 1411 was Konrad III. together with his eldest son Konrad IV. involved in bringing about the First Peace of Thorn . After a relatively short reign of only nine years, he died in 1412. His sons initially administered the inherited property together. Since the eldest son Konrad IV and the third-born Konrad VI. embarked on a spiritual career and Konrad VIII became a knight of the Teutonic Order in 1417, Konrad V "the Kanthner" and Konrad VII. "the old white" continued the reign.
