Konrad VIII. Von Oels (also Konrad VIII. "The boy" ; Latin Conradus Junior * between 1395 and 1400; † between 1444 and 1447) was together with his brothers Duke of Oels from 1412 until his death and from 1416 Duke of Steinau . In 1417 he joined the Teutonic Order at Marienburg , for which he was promoted to Provincial of the Ballei Bohemia and Moravia . He came from the Glogau branch of the Silesian Piasts .

Life

Conrad VIII was the youngest son of Duke Conrad III. von Oels († 1412) and the Jutta / Gutha, whose origin is not known. In keeping with the tradition of the Oels family, his four older brothers were also called Konrad, which is why they are given individual nicknames to distinguish them from one another. In addition, Konrad VI. two sisters: Euphemia († 1444), the first marriage to Elector Albrecht III. von Sachsen-Wittenberg († 1422) and then married to Prince Georg I of Anhalt-Zerbst († 1444), as well as Hedwig († 1447/53), wife of Duke Heinrich IX. von Glogau († 1467).

After the death of the father Konrad III. In 1412 Conrad VIII and his older brothers were initially under the tutelage of their eldest brother Conrad IV "Senior" ; he initially took over the joint government over the duchies of Oels, Cosel and Steinau and half of Beuthen . Conrad VIII “the boy” went to Marienburg in 1417 to become a knight of the Teutonic Order.
