At the 1986 Junior World Championships in Bad Kleinkirchheim , Ladstätter won the gold medal in the giant slalom , and as fourth in the slalom, he just missed another medal. He scored his first points in a World Cup race on January 18, 1987, when he was 15th in the Lauberhorn Slalom in Wengen . After he had finished in the points only once in the winter of 1987/88, he completely missed this goal in the winter of 1988/89.
Finally, Ladstätter succeeded in joining the world's elite in the 1989/90 World Cup season . He was able to place himself in the top ten ten times. The best result was a third place in the Schladming slalom on January 12, 1990 . In the course of the 1990/91 season he could not quite keep this level. On November 24, 1991, Ladstätter again took third place in the Park City slalom ; the other performances in the 1991/92 season were in the midfield. He finished 21st in the slalom at the 1992 Winter Olympics .
In the following winters, Ladstätter did not achieve a top 10 result either. He broke this continuity in his performance on December 19, 1995, when he took third place in the slalom of the 3-Tre race of Madonna di Campiglio for the third time in his career. In 1996 he won the Italian slalom championship. In March 1997, Ladstätter won World Cup points for the last time. For the next three years it was only used in the European Cup and FIS races . He ended his career in March 2000.
