Konrad von Hainburg OCart (also Konrad von Haimburg and Konrad von Gaming ; Latin Conradus Gemnicensis ; * in Hainburg an der Donau ; † August 17, 1360 in Gaming , Lower Austria ) was a Carthusian monk and author of Latin songs for saints and Mary.

Life

Konrad's origin and education are not known. Not even when he joined the Carthusian Order. After serving as vicar of the Mauerbach Charterhouse for a few years , he was prior of the Styrian Charterhouse Seitz from 1342 to 1345 and prior of the Charterhouse Gaming from 1350 and 1354 and from 1358 to 1360 . In 1352 he was appointed a visitor for the Upper German Order Province . For a few years he was also a member of the convent of the Prague Charterhouse "Mariengarten" .

Konrad achieved particular importance as the author of sacred works, including hymns to the Virgin Mary and saints of the litany . For the hymns of the saints he used the lives of the "Legenda aurea". The hymn “Crinale beatae Mariae virginis”, sometimes referred to as “Rosarium”, has been translated into Old Danish, Middle Low German and Middle High German. On behalf of the Bohemian and Roman-German King Charles IV and the first Archbishop of Prague Ernst von Pardubitz , Konrad put together the “Lessons for the Nocturnes” known as “Orationale Arnesti”. In 1356, at the request of Trento Bishop Meinhard von Neuhaus, the Praise of Mary, known as "Laus Mariae", appeared.
