from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Konstantin Komnenos Angelos Dukas ( Middle Greek Κωνσταντίνος Κομνηνὸς Άγγελος Δούκας ; * around 1151; † after 1199) was a Byzantine aristocrat from the Angeloi dynasty .

Constantine was probably the eldest son of General Andronikos Angelos and Euphrosyne Kastamonitissa , thus on his father's side a great-grandson of Emperor Alexios I Komnenos and Irene Dukaina . In the summer of 1183 he participated together with his father and brothers Johannes , Alexios III. , Theodoros , Andronikos and Isaak II in a conspiracy against Emperor Andronikos I , for which he was punished with blinding . Regardless of this, Isaac II, after overthrowing Andronicus I on September 11, 1185 and himself ascended the throne in Constantinople , distinguished his older brother with the high dignity of a Sebastokrator (vice-emperor). In 1199, Constantine was considered a possible successor for his sick brother Alexios III. The time of his death is unknown.
