Konstantin Apollonowitsch Korotejew ( Russian Константин Аполлонович Коротеев , scientific. Transliteration Konstantin Apollonovič Koroteev * 12 . Jul / 25. February  1901 greg. , † 4. January 1953 ) was a Soviet Colonel General Commander of several armies.

Life

Before World War II

Konstantin Korotejew was born in the Kharkiv Oblast in 1901 . At the age of fifteen he came to the front as an auxiliary soldier and porter. In 1918 he joined the Red Army . During the civil war he commanded a platoon , took part in the battles of Luhansk , Millerovo , Belaya Kalitva , Tsaritsyn . He was involved in the liquidation of the whites in the Urals. During the Russo-Finnish War , he commanded a brigade.

German-Soviet War

In March 1941 he was appointed commander of the 55th Rifle Corps. At the beginning of the so-called Great Patriotic War , the 55th Corps fought in the Kiev area . After the defeat at Kiev, the corps was disbanded. From October 1941 he was Commander in Chief of the 12th Army, which was involved in the defense of the Dnepropetrovsk and Stalino region . At the Battle of Rostov in November / December 1941, the 12th Army distinguished itself through its offensive operations. In the defense of the Caucasus , he commanded the 9th Army . In January 1943, the army launched an offensive and liberated the cities of Pyatigorsk , Nevinnomyssk , Armavir and Slavyansk on the Kuban from German occupation. From July 1943 he was commander in chief of the 52nd Army. He took part in Operation Korsun-Shevtshenko, Iassy -Kishinev , Vistula-Oder and Lower Silesia . After all, he fought in the Battle of Berlin , then took part in the Prague operation that ended the war in Czechoslovakia .

For his services he was honored as Hero of the Soviet Union on June 6, 1945 .

After the Second World War

In 1947 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff and in the same year was appointed Commander of the Trans-Baikal Military District , an office he held until 1951. From 1951 he was Deputy Commander of the North Caucasus Military District .

He died in January 1953 and was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow .
