The Kottwitz von Aulenbach family was a Frankish noble family .

history

The Kottwitz family , the same name as their possessions, the Silesian Kotowice or the Bohemian Kottwitz , are considered to be the family line. From a Moravian, Silesian descent, Kottwitz, striving towards the west, developed into the Frankish line, Kottwitz von Aulenbach. As part of this development, they carry a coat of arms that the von Dürn , von Fechenbach and von Adelsheim families also have . Because of their possessions, they were represented in the knight cantons of Odenwald and Rhön Werra . There is an epitaph in the Würzburg Cathedraland a bronze plate of the clergyman Johann Konrad Kottwitz von Aulenbach († 1610), in the church of St. John the Baptist in Mönchberg , in the bell house, the tombstone of Katharina von Aulenbach, who died in 1605. The tombstones of the married couple Johann Philipp Georg Kottwitz von Aulenbach († 1697) and Anna Maria Kottwitz von Aulenbach, née von Dernbach († 1693) are in the church of Urspringen . They were the parents of Maria Sidonie Philippine von Sickingen, born Kottwitz von Aulenbach. The family in Klingenberg am Main provided Mainz officials (see also Clingenburg ). The male family died out in the 17th century. In 1693 the von Mairhofen family , whose line then referred to itself as "Mairhofen von Aulenbach", was the successor to the Oberaulenbach area and castle . Via Maria Sidonie Philippine Kottwitz von Aulenbach, married since 1697 to the later Minister of the Electoral Palatinate, Johann Ferdinand von Sickingen (1664–1719), many family estates also fell to the von Sickingen family . Mainly these were Würzburg fiefs, including the castle and town of Dingolshausen , Stadelhofen and Mühlbach Castle near Karlstadt .

coat of arms

The coat of arms shows a black, vertical ibex horn in silver, the tip at the top, the lower end in the shape of a clover leaf. The crest consists of two black and silver divided ibex horns. The helmet covers are black and silver. The coat of arms is very similar to that of the Fechenbach and Adelsheim families .
