Kraatz is a street village in the Oberhavel district in the German state of Brandenburg, characterized by agriculture and livestock farming . It is located about four kilometers southeast of the town of Gransee in the eastern part of the Ruppiner Land landscape and has about 200 inhabitants (as of 2013). To the south and south-east of the village belong the residential areas Kraatzer Plan , Kraatz-Expansion and Kraatz-Siedlung .
history
Kraatz was founded in the first half of the 13th century, but after 1237, as part of the German East Settlement , it first appeared in documents in the spelling Kracz in 1438 in connection with destruction by the Mecklenburg princes and Pomeranian dukes. The village belonged as a fiefdom to the Brandenburg margraves, was pledged in 1319 as part of the Gransee state to the Ruppin family , the noble Lindow-Ruppin family , and was returned as a fief to the Elector of Brandenburg in 1524. Kraatz was administered by the Alt Ruppin domain office until 1846 , then by the Zehdenick domain office until 1872 . From 1952 it belonged to the newly established Gransee district, in 1974 it was merged with the neighboring village of Buberow to the southwest to form the Kraatz-Buberow community, and since 1993 it has belonged to the new Oberhavel district. 1997 Kraatz became part of the town of Gransee.

Attractions
The village church, made of field stones and provided with a so-called broad tower, dates from the second half of the 13th century and was given a wooden helmet in 1597 . In front of the church there are two memorial plaques that were erected in May 2011 and commemorate the ornithologist Maria Emilie Snethlage, who was born in Kraatz in 1868, and the painter Max Köck-Wichmann who died there in 1962 . The village church and the graves of the Snethlage and Köck families in the cemetery are listed as historical monuments.

At the time of the GDR there was an NVA military complex with anti-aircraft missiles of the type S-200 near Kraatz on the southeastern Hangelberg . After the fall of the Wall, the Bundeswehr briefly took over the site on which there are currently wind turbines.
Sports
Currently there is only one registered sports club in the village. This is the Kraatz riding club, which was founded in 1965. Every year the riding club organizes a riding day, which enjoys great regional popularity.
