The Burullus (or El Burullus ) power plant is a combined cycle power plant in the Kafr al-Sheikh governorate , Egypt , which is located on an isthmus between the Mediterranean Sea and Lake Burullus .

With an installed capacity of 4.8  GW , Burullus is one of the three most powerful power plants in Egypt and in all of Africa (as of February 2019); the other two are Beni Suef and New Capital . Construction of the power plant began in October 2015. It was completed in July 2018.

The power plant is owned by the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company .

Power plant units

The power plant consists of four plants, each with two gas turbines and a downstream steam turbine . A waste heat steam generator is connected to each of the two gas turbines ; the waste heat steam generator then supplies the steam turbine. The SGT5-8000H gas turbines and the SST-5000 steam turbines were supplied by Siemens.
