The Damietta power plant is a combined cycle power plant in Dumyat Governorate , Egypt , which is located on the Damietta arm of the Nile .

With an installed capacity of 1,700  MW , Damietta is one of the most powerful power plants in Egypt (as of September 2017). The power plant is used to cover the base load . It went into operation in 1989 with the first units. The annual production in 2009 was 7.798 billion kWh . In 2011 the power plant was expanded to include four gas turbines .

The power plant is owned by the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company ; it is operated by the East Delta Electricity Production Company .

The first three systems each consist of two gas turbines and a downstream steam turbine . A waste heat steam generator is connected to each of the two gas turbines ; the waste heat steam generator then supplies the steam turbine.
