The power station Eraring ( English Eraring Power Station ) is a coal-fired power station in New South Wales , Australia . It is about 1 km from the western shore of Lake Macquarie . The city of Newcastle is located approx. 20 km northeast of the power station.
The power plant is owned and operated by Origin Energy .

With an installed capacity of 2.88 GW , Eraring is the most powerful power plant in Australia. It provides about 25% of the electricity used in New South Wales. Annual production fluctuates: it was z. B. 14,116 GWh in 2009 and 17,530 GWh in 2006. Accordingly, the consumption of hard coal fluctuates between 5.48 million t in 2009 and 7 million t in 2006. Eraring is used to cover the base load .
Power plant units
The power plant consists of a total of four units that went into operation from 1982 to 1984. The following table gives an overview:

The output of the four units was increased from 660 MW to 720 MW (or 750 MW) between 2010 and 2012.
Others
The power plant receives around 1.1 million m³ of recycled wastewater from the sewage treatment plant in Dora Creek , which is further purified in the power plant and then used in the steam boilers. This enabled the fresh water requirement to be reduced from 8,500 to 4,000 m³ per day.
The power plant is expected to remain in operation until the early 2030s. From this point on, Origin Energy will no longer invest in fossil fuels and instead rely on renewable energies.
