The Nubaria power plant is a combined cycle power plant in the al-Buhaira governorate on the Nubaria Canal in Egypt .

Data

With an installed capacity of 2,250  MW , Nubaria is one of the most powerful power plants in Egypt (as of September 2017). The annual production in 2009 was 11.686 billion kWh . The power plant is used to cover the base load .

Construction of the first two plants began in August 2002. The power plant went into operation with the first units in 2005. In November 2005 construction began on the third plant. It went into operation in 2009. The total cost for the construction of the power plant amounted to 3.6 billion USD .

The power plant is owned by the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company ; it is operated by the Middle Delta Electricity Production Company .

Power plant units

The power plant consists of three systems. The following table gives an overview:

investment block Max. Power (MW) Start of operation turbine generator Steam boiler
1 1 250 2005 Siemens Siemens Alstom
2 250 2005 Siemens Siemens Alstom
3 250 2006 MHI Melco
2 1 250 2005 Siemens Siemens Alstom
2 250 2005 Siemens Siemens Alstom
3 250 2006 MHI Melco
3 1 250 2009 GE GE STF
2 250 2009 GE GE STF
3 250 2010 Alstom Alstom

Each system consists of two gas turbines and a downstream steam turbine . A waste heat steam generator is connected to each of the two gas turbines ; the waste heat steam generator then supplies the steam turbine.
