The hospital Neu-Mariahilf is a 1865 founded, Catholic embossed acute hospital in Göttingen . It was included in the Lower Saxony hospital plan in 2015 with 104 beds .

The Neu-Mariahilf hospital was one of the Hildesheim Vincentian Sisters' hospitals . However, in March 2014, in financial difficulties, it was bought by the Evangelical Hospital Göttingen-Weende (EKH Weende).

history

Hospital chapel (2014 before demolition in 2016)

In 1865, the first sisters of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Vincent von Paul in Hildesheim fell ill from Göttingen citizens. They were initially given a house on the corner of Turmstrasse (then: Klein Paris No. 16) and Nikolaistraße, and in 1867 they moved into their new building "Stift (Alt-) Mariahilf" at Klein Paris No. 22.

In 1895 the limited space there forced a new building (“Neu-Mariahilf”) in Gartenstrasse, today's Humboldtallee, which was inaugurated a year later and could accommodate 40 patients. This current south wing was extended in 1910 by a north wing with 30 beds.

It was not until 1960 that the two buildings could be connected, another built and the chapel rebuilt. In the same year a nursing school opened with 42 training places, which existed until 2003. In 1980 an administration building was built. In 1991 the hospital took on the legal form of a GmbH . From 1980 to 2003 the Neu-Mariahilf hospital had a central pharmacy which also ensured the supply of the congregation's hospitals in Duderstadt and Kassel . Since then Neu-Mariahilf has been connected to the hospital pharmacy of the University Medical Center Göttingen . The same has been true since 2006 for the clinical laboratory that existed since 1993. In 1992 the staff dormitory and the nursing school were renovated, in 1993 a functional wing was completed and in 1996 a new entrance area and an interdisciplinary intensive care unit were put into operation. In 2002 the five-year renovation of the nursing wards was completed, in 2007 that of the operating theaters . A medical center has existed on the hospital premises since 2009 , but two years later the administration building was demolished and the hospital administration relocated to the premises of the former nursing school.

In 1962 Fritz Douglas Roeder performed the world's first stereotactic hypothalamus operation on a patient with “deviant sexual behavior” ( homosexual - pedophile ); a now completely obsolete method of psychosurgery . In addition to the right ventromedial nucleus , part of the cinereum tuberosity , other parts of the brain were unintentionally destroyed during the operation.

present

A merger with the Protestant Hospital New Bethlehem in the immediate vicinity had been under discussion for decades until 2013, but failed despite occasional medical cooperation, possibly due to differences between the two denominations. In March 2014, after preliminary negotiations, the Evangelical Hospital Göttingen-Weende finally bought the Neu-Mariahilf Hospital and announced a modernization of the building and the equipment technology as well as a new regulation of internal processes in order to improve the profitability of operations. The Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Vinzenz von Paul in Hildesheim, as the previous sponsor, saw the only way to maintain the hospital in the long term against the background of competitive pressure in the healthcare system and the decline in its own importance in the sale.

The nursing school of the EKH Weende is located in Neu-Mariahilf.
