The Krausnickstraße is a short residential street in the suburb of Spandau , a historic neighborhood in Berlin district center of the district of the same . It is named after Heinrich Wilhelm Krausnick , who was mayor of Berlin from 1834–1849 (with an interruption of two years).
location
Krausnickstrasse connects Oranienburger Strasse in the southwest with Große Hamburger Strasse in the east. Approximately in the middle it has a bend where it changes direction from northeast to east.
The residential buildings on this street enclose Krausnickpark , which is only accessible to the public via Oranienburger Straße.
history
Krausnickstraße was laid out in the 19th century. It was given its name, which is still valid today, on October 7, 1861, after the then mayor of Berlin. The construction of the street with the subsequent development is thanks to the wealthy owner of a peat cut from Fehrbellin . He had the areas parceled out and sold them to well-heeled prospects who had handsome houses built here. There were suggestions for the new access road, such as Humboldtstrasse or Schinkelstrasse , which were not accepted by the Berlin city administration. Most of the families of the court servants of the nearby Monbijou Castle soon moved into the new buildings .
During the Second World War , the houses were damaged, especially bullet holes, which were only gradually repaired after the fall of the Wall . The Krausnickpark in the inner area of the development already existed before, but was horticultural redesigned.
