The district of Helgoland , officially also the district of Insel Helgoland , was a district in the Prussian province of Schleswig-Holstein that existed from 1922 to 1932 .

history

From February 18, 1891 to September 30, 1922, the municipality of Helgoland belonged to the Süderdithmarschen district in the province of Schleswig-Holstein . On October 1, 1922, it became the only municipality in the new Helgoland district. With the founding of the circle one wanted to counter separatist movements on the island. As a result, however, it led to a permanent dispute between the district administrator and local council on the island. On October 1, 1932, the district was dissolved again. Helgoland came to the district of Pinneberg as a rural municipality that was free of office . To this day it is represented by a directly elected member of the Pinneberg district assembly. The reason for the assignment to the district of Pinneberg was that Pinneberg had the best transport connection to Heligoland of all Schleswig-Holstein district towns due to its proximity to Hamburg.
