Gustav Etzel

Gustav Etzel (* July 8, 1877 in Mühlhausen / Thuringia ; † March 27, 1938 in Orselina near Locarno ) was a Prussian officer and district administrator in the Helgoland district .

Life

Etzel was a Prussian officer and served in the First World War from 1914 to 1918 . After the war, Etzel joined the Eastern Border Guard for Silesia . In 1919 he was assigned to the German-Polish border setting commission and in 1921 a member of the German Upper Silesian border commission. In 1923 Etzel led the German delegation of the inter-allied commission for the entire German-Polish borders as chairman . He left the Reichswehr as a major .

From 1925 to 1931 Etzel served as district administrator in the Helgoland district . On Heligoland he fought intensely against separatist movements. Here he was able to build on his experience in the German-Polish disputes. He founded the Heligoland Club with others . From June 1, 1931 until his retirement in 1934, he worked for the government in Wiesbaden , where he also spent the last years of his life.
