history

The Kreissparkasse Altenkirchen was founded on January 2, 1858 and initially moved into a shop on Kölner Strasse in Altenkirchen. Due to the expansion of their business operations, larger premises were soon required, which was achieved by moving to the district building (1888) and moving into their own building on Rathausstrasse (1906).

The connection to the Sparkasse Computer Center Mittelrhein in Bendorf in 1968 enabled a gradual conversion of the Sparkasse to electronic data processing. The move to a new building on Schlossplatz was completed in 1974. After controversial discussions about the design (popular: ship lift ) and fire protection concerns due to the asbestos processing, the main office was demolished 20 years later in favor of a new building, which was occupied in 1995.

The Kreissparkasse Altenkirchen finally merged on June 1, 2015 with the Kreissparkasse Westerwald to form the Sparkasse Westerwald-Sieg .
