The Kreisverkehrsbetriebe Saarlouis GmbH (KVS GmbH) is a public transport company based in the Saarland district town of Saarlouis .

history

KVS was founded in 1913 as a stock corporation and operated as an electricity-generating company and as an operator of trams and small railways in the Saarlouis district , whereby the small railway was taken over by the city of Saarlouis. In 1928 bus feeder lines were set up. In 1925 the network reached its greatest expansion with the commissioning of line 9 to Creutzwald (F) with a track length of 75 km. By 1947 the network was almost completely rebuilt after being destroyed in the war (73.5 km). In the period from 1953 to 1963 there was a change from tram to bus operation, with buses from French manufacturers being replaced by German buses from 1960 onwards. In 1972, today's depot along the street "Am Kleinbahnhof" (former freight yard ) went into operation, and the first "standard scheduled buses" were procured at the same time.

In 1993, the first low-floor buses were purchased and a nationwide timetable information system was implemented, which was also offered on the website from 1996 onwards. Since 1994 there is a possibility of light preemption by KVS buses within the city area of Saarlouis. Since 1997, all new KVS buses have had folding ramps on the second door for barrier-free entry.

In 1997 the KVG was founded as a subsidiary of KVS AG. At the end of 2001, the operational departments of Kreis-Verkehrsbetriebe Saarlouis AG were transferred to KVS GmbH, which has been responsible for operations ever since. KVS AG is still the owner of the real estate and co-owner of KVS GmbH. In 2005 KVS GmbH became a founding member of the Saarland Transport Association (saarVV). In the following year, unique line numbers were introduced nationwide in Saarland, with 400 numbers being provided for the Saarlouis district. Some of the old tram line numbers can still be seen in it.

KVS has been purchasing low-entry buses since 2007, in accordance with the Euro 5 emissions standard since 2008 and in accordance with Euro 6 since 2014.

In 2010, after more than 180 Mercedes-KOM buses, Solaris and Scania buses were put into service for the first time.

The 100th anniversary was celebrated with a ceremony on April 19, 2013 and an employee party on April 20, 2013.
