Cross-Neroberger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kreuz-Neroberger is a wine grown on the Kreuzberg in Berlin .

Growing area

The Senate vineyard in front of the fire wall on Methfesselstrasse, the Kreuz-Neroberger growing area, is looked after by the neighboring nursery.

The mountain is located in the district of Berlin-Kreuzberg named after him and, at 66 meters above sea level, is one of the highest natural elevations in the city. It was originally called "Tempelhofer Berg" or "Götzescher Weinberg", because wine was grown here from the 15th to the 18th century. The current stock of vines goes back to 1968. At that time, the partner community of Wiesbaden gave the Kreuzberg district the first white grapevines , and in 1975 Ingelheim am Rhein in Rhineland-Hesse followed suit with red grapevines of the Pinot Noir variety . Its name therefore comes from the Wiesbaden Nerobergback. Since then , the Kreuzberg wine has been growing here on the northern slope of the Kreuzberg in a nursery in Methfesselstrasse , spoiled by a heat-storing firewall exposed to the midday sun.

Varieties and yield

0.5 liter bottle of Kreuz-Neroberger, Riesling, 2001

The grape varieties Riesling , Kerner as well as blue Pinot Noir and Blauer Portugieser are grown . In 2010 there were a total of 300  vines . The wine is not pressed and matured in Berlin, but in Wiesbaden (Riesling and Kerner) or Ingelheim am Rhein (Pinot Noir and Portuguese).

The annual harvest was initially modest with 11 bottles of 0.7 l each in 1970 and only seven bottles in 1971. Around 700 to 800 kg of grapes have been harvested since 1991 , from which around 700 bottles (0.375 liters each ) of Kreuz-Neroberger can be pressed. The must weight is between 71 and 76  degrees Oechsle .

Purchase options

The Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district does not sell the wine, but sells it in small quantities for a donation of at least 10 euros.

Others

The wine is popularly known as "flag wine". The wine inspector for the State of Berlin, Peter Scheib, attested the 2007 Pinot Noir a positive assessment: “Very excellent, dark fruit aromas dominate the taste. Mainly raspberries and blackberries, but also some smoked bacon is included. It tastes fresh and is very wild on the palate, typically Kreuzberg. "

Another well-known vineyard in Berlin is located at Volkspark Humboldthain in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen , another Berlin wine is Wilmersdorfer Teufelströpfchen . Wine has been grown and pressed in Berlin-Britz since 2002.
