The Bamberg motorway junction is a motorway junction near the Bavarian city of Bamberg in Upper Franconia . The federal motorways 70 ( Schweinfurt - Bayreuth ) and 73 ( Suhl - Nuremberg ) cross.
The motorway junction is almost entirely on the territory of the municipality of Gundelsheim , only the southern ramps are in the Bamberg urban area. Places nearby are Gundelsheim, Hirschknock , Lichteneiche and Hallstadt .
The Bamberg cross was built as a clover leaf , the course of the connecting ramps was adapted to the different space available in the vicinity of the motorway junction. A central bridge structure leads the four-lane A 73 over the four-lane A 70 (without acceleration lane ). Bamberger Kemmerstrasse, a farm road and the Gründleinsbach with a total of eight bridge structures are also bridged .
After the opening of the cross, the eastern section of the A 70 was initially classified as federal highway 505 , the northern section of the A 73 was led as federal highway 173 . With the completion of the expansion of the B 505 to the A 70, the eastern part was upgraded in 1981. The northern part was upgraded to a federal motorway on January 1, 2008. An expansion of the cross, including with distribution lanes , is planned.
Traffic volume
Around 82,600 vehicles passed through the cross every day in 2015.
