The Chrüzberg (also Kreuzberge ) is a summit ridge in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen on the eastern edge of the Alpstein between 1,884 and 2,065  m above sea level. M. height. There are eight surveyed points which on the national map listed are. They are also numbered from east to west using Roman numerals (not on the national map).

geography

The chain runs from northeast to southwest and is about 1.5 km long. To the north-east of it lies the Saxer Lücke , which somewhat separates the further course of the ridge towards Hochhus and further away Hoher Kasten . To the north, the walls drop around 300 meters almost perpendicular to the Roslenalp ( 1767  m ). To the south they tower over the St. Gallen Rhine Valley by around 1,600 meters.

Chrüzberg is both the singular and the plural form in the dialect. Seen from the north - that is, from the nearest alp, which would be important for field names - the whole ridge can definitely be perceived as just one structure. Since the numbering of the mountains was certainly not customary in the past, it can be assumed that the area, as an agriculturally uninteresting area, bore a single name and above all the emerging climbing led to the numbering and thus to differentiating the various pillars.

geology

The pointed shape of the Chrüzberg still bears witness to the former unfolding process , you can clearly see the vertical layered sheet. It is made of limestone .

reachability

The Chrüzberg can be reached on a dense network of trails to the Saxer Lücke - either from the south from Sax or from the east, from Brülisau via Bollenwees am Fälensee . The high path from the Hohen Kasten also leads from the east to the Saxer Lücke. From the north to get from Zwinglipass to Mutsch saddle or directly from the northwest of Wildhaus via Tesel and Grueb to Mutsch saddle.

Climbing routes

Northeast view

The peaks, often referred to in German as Kreuzberge , and numbered in German, are popular climbing rocks on which there are numerous well-known climbing routes. The SAC climbing guide Alpstein lists almost 110 routes on the Kreuzberge. Today you can see the climbing history of the entire Alpstein from them:

The Gray Eminence ( 7c + ) is one of the most difficult climbing routes in the entire Alpstein massif on IV Kreuzberg.

Classic tours in the medium difficulty range are e.g. B. the flight route (5c +) on I. Kreuzberg or the Sandührliweg (5a) on III. Kreuzberg.

Well-known easier routes are for example the wide southern ripple (3a) on the III. Kreuzberg or the west ridge (2b) on the V. Kreuzberg.

Since the early 1990s, some worthwhile routes have been gently rehabilitated with bolts . But they are still very spartan and have an alpine character.
