The Kreuzweg in Theinfeld , a district of the Bavarian municipality of Thundorf in Lower Franconia in the Bad Kissingen district is one of the architectural monuments in Thundorf in Lower Franconia and is registered in the Bavarian Monument List under number D-6-72-157-36 .

history

The Way of the Cross is on the outskirts of Theinfeld in the “Gänseleite” forest. It leads along the “Gänseleite” path, after which the forest was named, past the local cemetery to the Dürrnberg. At the end of the Way of the Cross there is a high cross made of sandstone .

The complex was built in 1904 (Kreuzweg) and 1905 (Hochkreuz) by master stone mason Makarius Schlembach from Wermerichshausen (today part of Münnerstadt ). Way of the Cross and Hochkreuz were financed from two donations made shortly before to the Catholic parish. The stations of the cross are designed as saints houses made of sandstone with a terracotta representation of the respective station in the niche rear wall . The terracotta pictures were delivered by the "church art institute of Michael Mauer from Würzburg ".

At the base of the high cross at the end of the Way of the Cross there is the inscription “I lift my eyes to the mountains, from where help will come to me. Psalm 120 ”and the year 1905. The French limestone corpus on the high cross was created by the Kissingen sculptor Valentin Weidner in the Romanesque style ; his fee was 140 M . The Romanesque is clear from the fact that Christ is standing on a pedestal on the cross and his feet are nailed on. It was not until after the Romanesque period that it became customary to place Christ's feet on top of one another and to pin them to the cross with a nail.

The originally lighter body became darker due to the humidity of the forest.
