Sten Wilfred Kristoffer Leandoer (born May 6, 1962 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish writer , translator and literary critic .

Life

Kristoffer Leandoer grew up about 50 km northwest of Stockholm in Sigtuna and studied art history and comparative literature at Stockholm University . He began his professional career as a freelance literary and theater critic for the literary magazine Allt om böcker , Stockholms-Tidningen and Dagens Nyheter . From 1988 to 1990 he was employed in the culture department of the Aftonbladet . Together with his wife Åsa Crona-Leandoer he founded the magazine För kännedom in 1990 and was editor of the newly started Bonnier Litterära Magasin from 2002 to 2004 .

Kristoffer Leandoer published his first volume of poetry Dykarklocka in 1987, which was followed by more and more fantastic volumes. He was able to gain greater attention in 1994 with his collection of horror stories Svarta speglar: skräckberättelser . However, he is best known as someone who introduced French literature to Sweden and who works as a translator for French-writing authors such as Bernard Noël , Christophe Tarkos , Gérard de Nerval , Marcel Schwob , Édouard Levé and Emmanuel Carrère . He has also translated Anglo-Saxon and American authors of fantasy literature such as Neil Gaiman , Christopher Paolini and Lauren Oliver into Swedish. In books such as Huset som Proust byggde or Mask , Leandoer dedicated himself to the subject of literary essays.

In 2004 Leandoer founded the Swedish science fiction and fantasy publisher Onsdag . From 2005 to 2008 he was employed by Albert Bonnier as a consultant for the publishing house.

In November 2018 he was appointed to the Nobel Committee for the Nobel Prize for Literature , from which he left on December 2, 2019.

Leandoer is married to the Swedish development worker and Russia expert Elsa Håstad and has two children, Jonatan (* 1996) and Miriam (* 2000). Jonatan works as a rapper and producer under the pseudonym Yung Lean .
