The Koner Lake (in Chile Laguna Galvarino ) is a circular lake with a diameter of 315 m on Deception Iceland in the archipelago of South Shetland Islands . It is immediately west of Whalers Bay and north of Penfold Point .
Norwegian whalers named it between 1905 and 1931 as Tokroningen (Norwegian for two-crown piece ). The Royal Navy Hydrographic Unit carried out surveys between 1948 and 1949 under the direction of Lieutenant Commander David Neil Penfold (1913–1991). The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee transferred the Norwegian name to English in 1950 in a modified form. The namesake of the participants in the First Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1946–1947) is named after the Mapuche warrior Galvarino († 1557), an indigenous protagonist of the Arauco War .
