The former seat of Crown Princess Victoria has been completely restored as an estate since the 1990s and opened to the public in 2002. The former sample property of the Hohenzollern covers an area of 18,000 m²,

history

In 1664, the Brandenburg Elector Friedrich Wilhelm acquired the Bornstedt manor . Until the reign of Friedrich Wilhelm I, a brewery and a distillery were built on the site. The hop garden, which was laid out in 1727, was given up 100 years later for Lenné 's beautification plans. The property, which had meanwhile been subordinated to the Potsdam office, was bought back by Friedrich Wilhelm IV in 1841 and completely rebuilt in the Italian style in 1846–1848 after a fire. The designs for the building ensemble were made according to the specifications of King Johann Heinrich Haeberlin . From 1867 it became the residence of the Crown Prince couple Friedrich Wilhelm and Victoria. Emil Sello redesigned the garden based on the English model in 1875. After various renovations, the estate was inhabited from 1901 by Princess Feodora , a sister of Empress Auguste Victoria . It was given to her for life. In the following years Bornstedt developed into an artists' court with writers, literary circles and painters. The princess found the motifs for her Impressionist paintings in the area around the crown property.

In 1878 it merged with the Gallin Crown Estate and the new Crown Estate was named Crown Estate Bornstedt-Gallin . In 1928 the Bornstedt-Gallin area was divided again.

The writer Eugen Diesel , son of Rudolf Diesel , lived on the estate from 1925 to 1939.

The ensemble, which was remodeled with modern buildings until the 1980s, was dismantled and reconstructed from 1999. On June 1, 2002, the crown property was reopened. In November 2004, the British Queen visited the crown estate.

The entire facility at Ribbeckstrasse 6–7 was rented to retailers and restaurateurs after the renovation. A restaurant-brewery, the royal bakery and the pewter figure museum opened in the former farm buildings. Brandenburg artisans operated sales outlets for their products here. During the Advent season, the crown property became a well-attended establishment and various events and exhibitions took place throughout the year. For example, the United Buddy Bears , The Minis , were presented twice in 2005 .

At the beginning of the 2010s, the opening boom became less attractive and the number of visitors declined, so that dealers gave up. The craftsmen and tenants also stated the cause of inconsistencies with the management. In 2008, the major Berlin restaurateur Josef Laggner opened the facility, and in 2015 the “historic building ensemble at Sanssouci Palace Park” was offered for sale.

With a new start in the middle of the 2010s, the Brandenburg Manufactory, the Royal Court Bakery and the estate and delicatessen shop are in operation on the farm, while the estate shop offers retail space for craftsmen from Potsdam. Event rooms are available for private events and a branch of the Potsdam registry office exists in the manor house. According to Lenné's plan of a lawn between the manor house and the lake, the rose garden was created under Victoria. After the reconstruction, the rose garden parterre was newly laid out and planted in the old dimensions, the tall white Snow White roses were conspicuous, plus there were creamy white dog roses "La Paloma 85" and tall rose-colored "Pink Fairy".
