Krystyna Feldman

Krystyna Feldman (born March 1, 1916 in Lemberg ( Polish: Lwów ), Austria-Hungary ; † January 24, 2007 in Poznań , Poland ) was a Polish actress .

Life

Krystyna Feldman was the daughter of an opera singer and a stage actor . After studying acting , she was engaged at the municipal theater in Lwów, Poland at the time. However, this brief engagement was interrupted by the German occupation of the city in World War II. It was not until 1944, after the liberation of Lwów, that she returned to the stage of this theater and played in Stanisław Wyspiański's wedding reception under the direction of Aleksander Bardini .

Career

In the course of the expulsion of the Polish population from Львов / Ľwow (now Ukraine . Львів / Lwiw ), which is now part of the Soviet Republic of Ukraine , she had to leave the city and received engagements at numerous Polish theaters. The closest cooperation existed with the New Theater in Poznań . The petite actress has also appeared in numerous films since 1954 (film debut under Jerzy Kawalerowicz ). For her role of Jan Urbanski's grandmother in Jacek Bromski's action drama To ja, złodziej , she received the 2001 Polish Film Award for Best Supporting Actress . Her last big success was the male role of the painter Nikifor in Krzysztof Krauze's film My Nikifor . For this role she received the 2004 award for best leading actress at the Polish Film Festival Gdynia 2004 and a year later the Polish Film Award again in the same category . The film also won the main prize at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival .

Krystyna Feldman also starred in several episodes of the Polish sitcom Świat według Kiepskich . The role of the loud grandmother, which she played but was never satisfied with herself, made her even more famous and popular in Poland than she already was. After a few years, however, she had finally decided to give up this role. She played her last little episode in Stanisław Tym's satire Ryś alongside numerous stars of Polish film.

At the children's request, she received the international award as Cavalier of the Order of Smiles .
