Krzysztof Zygmunt Pac (lit. Kristupas Zigmantas Pacas ; * 1621 ; † 1684 ) was Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania . He comes from the Pac (Lithuanian Pacai ) family, one of the most important Lithuanian noble families of the Republic of the Polish Crown and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania . His father was Stefan Pac , Vice Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

Career

Pac was sent abroad to study at a young age. He studied in Cracow , Padua and Perugia . During this time there were close ties to Italy and a closeness to Italian culture. Back in Lithuania, he made a career in royal administration. After he headed the Sejm of Brest in 1653 , he was appointed Vice Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 1655. In 1658 he was appointed Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. He was thus responsible for the foreign policy of Poland-Lithuania during the wars with Sweden and Russia . In 1673 he was able to achieve that every third Sejm should take place in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

Krzysztof Zygmunt Pac 'only son from his marriage to Claire Isabelle de Mailly-Lascari died after just 8 days. To commemorate him, but actually above all to make a memory of himself, he had the Camaldolese order that he brought to Lithuania build a splendid baroque monastery church in Pažaislis . The development of the church is directly related to the construction of the baroque St. Peter and Paul Church , which his cousin Michał Kazimierz Pac had built in Vilnius. Both cousins ​​were buried in the church they founded.
