Kuaima Isaac Riruako (born April 24, 1935 in Aminuis as Issaskar Kakuremdiro , South West Africa , today Namibia ; † June 2, 2014 in Windhoek ) was a Namibian politician and traditional leader of the Herero ("red flag").

In April 2019, a larger street in Swakopmund was named after Riruako.

Life path

Riruako first went to St. Barnabas Primary School in Windhoek before going to study in Accra , Ghana at the end of the 1960s . After studying there at the Kwame Nkrumah Ideological Institute , Riruako studied at the University of New York in the United States of America .

Riruako has been chairman of the party since the National Unity Democratic Organization (NUDO) was founded in 2003 and a member of the National Assembly of Namibia since 2004 . He ran as a candidate in the 2004 and 2009 presidential elections .

Riruako belonged to the royal house of the Tjamuaha / OtjikaTjamuaha . He later named himself Kuaima after his grandfather . After the assassination of his predecessor Clemens Mutuurunge Kapuuo in 1978, he became Paramount Chief of all Herero.

Riruako campaigned for Germany's reparations payments for the genocide of the Herero and Nama during the German colonial period in German South West Africa .

After a long illness he died in Windhoek on June 2, 2014 and was buried in a state funeral next to his predecessors in Okahandja from June 23 to June 25, 2014 .
