Kujō Yoritsune

Kujō Yoritsune ( Japanese 九 条 頼 経 ; * February 12, 1218 ; † September 1, 1256 ) was the 4th Shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate in Japan . He ruled from 1226 to 1244.

His father was the Kampaku Kujō Michiie and his grandmother was a niece of Minamoto no Yoritomo . His mother was Fujiwara no Rinshi. According to Chinese astrology, he was born in the zodiac sign of the tiger, in the month of the tiger and on the day of the tiger, so he was given the birth name Mitora ( 三 寅 ), "triple tiger".

Kujō Yoritsune is also known under the name Fujiwara no Yoritsune , as the Kujō family was one of the five branches of the powerful Fujiwara clan.

At the age of seven, he became Seii Taishogun in 1226 as part of a political deal between his father and the regents Hōjō Yoshitoki and Hōjō Masako , who used him as a puppet ruler.

In 1244 he left his position as Shogun to his son, Kujō Yoritsugu . The following year he became a Buddhist priest.
