Kunibert "Kuno" Füssel (born September 23, 1941 in Trier ) is a Catholic theologian and author.

Life

After studying mathematics and physics , Füssel worked for a large computer company for some time until he decided to study theology. In 1975 he received his doctorate in theology at the theological faculty in Münster under Karl Rahner SJ and Johann Baptist Metz with a thesis on the theory of science . From 1971 to 1982 he was research assistant to Metz at the chair for fundamental theology and to Herbert Vorgrimler at the chair for dogmatics. Over the years, Füssel has taught at various universities and worked as a translator (French and Spanish). From 1998 until his retirement in 2007, Füssel was a teacher of mathematics, physics and religion at the Business School in Koblenz .

Füssel has lived in Andernach for a long time . His son Marian Füssel is Professor of Early Modern History at the University of Göttingen .

Act

Content-related disputes with the Catholic Church meant that Füssel, who is considered a liberation theologian , was denied a career within the church. In the 1980s, Füssel worked at the Institute for Religious Studies at the University of Bremen , where he held a substitute chair, until in 1989 Hans G. Kippenberg was appointed to the newly established Chair for Religious Studies with a focus on the history and theory of religions. However, Füssel remained loyal to the city of Bremen: from 1983 to 2012 he held an annual seminar in the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Bremen-Lüssum, in which materialistic interpretation of the Bible was taught.

In 1991 he was one of the co-founders of the Society for the Protection of Civil Rights and Human Dignity .

Honor

On his 70th birthday he was honored by the parish team of the church in the Swiss Frenkendorf-Füllinsdorf in the Lucerne court church with an organ concert on this feast day. As part of the subsequent celebration, Füssel was presented with a commemorative publication. The celebration was also intended to mark the 80th birthday of the liberation theologian Franz Hinkelammert under the motto 150 years of the theology of liberation ; However, this had to cancel sick.
