Kurhaus Bad Neuenahr
The Kurhaus in Bad Neuenahr , a district of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler in the Ahrweiler district ( Rhineland-Palatinate ), was built in 1903/05. The building on Felix-Rütten-Strasse is a protected monument .
history
The Kurhaus , located directly on the Ahr , was completed in 1905 according to plans by the Cologne architect Oscar Schütz . The building cost the Bad Neuenahr corporation one million gold marks . The large ballroom has 700 parquet and 300 balcony seats. The Bad Neuenahr casino and other rooms for congresses and festive events are also located in the Kurhaus .
From 1951 to 1958 the federal press balls took place in the Bad Neuenahrer Kurhaus. Only after the Beethoven Hall had been completed in Bonn did the Federal Press Ball move to the then seat of government.
architecture
The 170-meter-long Kurhaus, built in neo-baroque style, was a prestigious building with which Neuenahr wanted to compete with other health resorts such as Baden-Baden . The center of the Kurhaus is the large festival and theater hall around which the other rooms are grouped. On the south side is the main entrance with a two-tower facade, which is very rarely found in a secular building in Germany. After a magnificent vestibule , a staircase leads to the foyer with the festival and theater hall behind it. The garden hall and terraces to the south and west are attached to the central building. The Kursaal, with the ensemble of music pavilion, park, sanatorium and hotel, forms the center of the spa.
