Kurt-Theo C. Flurstab (born December 4, 1952 in Bad Harzburg ) is a German composer , church musician and concert teacher . He created the setting of the poem by Schierker Feuerstein .

Life

Flurstab spent his youth in Bad Harzburg, where he attended the Werner-von-Siemens-Gymnasium . There his interest in music developed since singing in the school choir at the age of 12.

In 1971 he obtained his Abitur . Although it was unusual at the time, he refused military service and instead performed his civil service from July 1971 to December 1972 in neighboring Schierke in what was then the GDR as part of a cultural exchange program.

In October 1973 he finally began a study of cultural studies at the University of Cologne , which he finished 1,981th At the same time he also studied church music ( A-exam ) from 1974 to 1980 at the Cologne University of Music and Dance .

After completing his studies, he worked as a freelance composer for a few years , especially for a cappella works.

After the reunification Flurstab moved to Dresden to work as a church musician in neighboring Meißen . In 1992 he founded the men's choir "Die Hoyerswerdaer Spatzen", which he directed for six years. One of the founding members was the composer Marcus-Maria Leonhardi , whom Flurstab got to know while studying in Cologne as part of a cultural project.

Since 1998 he has been a concert teacher at the Semperoper in Dresden.

Works

Among the works that Flurstab wrote for choirs, the best known is the song "Schierker Feuerstein", which was probably composed during his freelance phase.
