Kurt Bertram (born November 16, 1910 in Erdmannsdorf , † July 10, 1988 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) was a German carver from the Saxon Ore Mountains .

Life

Kurt Bertram was born in Erdmannsdorf near Augustusburg and grew up in Tannenberg (Saxony) . He was often among lace makers who worked from home on the lace sack and spent a lot of time contributing to the livelihood of their families and often received meager wages. Kurt Bertram grew up with the customs and traditions of the Ore Mountains, which they cultivated especially during Advent and Christmas.

His talent for drawing was recognized at an early stage, so that after attending elementary school, his parents trained him as a pattern maker at the textile school . In 1939 he was drafted into the German Wehrmacht, in which he served as a medical soldier until the end of the war. In 1949 Kurt Bertram became an employee of the later VEB Rohr- und Kaltwalzwerk Karl-Marx-Stadt (until 1953 Chemnitz ). Most recently, he worked in the management.

Already in his youth he devoted himself to the Erzgebirge folk art of carving in his free time. He was welcomed by the carvers of the allotment garden section “Sunny Height”. Of them, he was the most qualified. In Oederan he successfully took part in the first course of the special school for directors of the artistic folk creation carving / wood design. The training lasted three years. During this time he founded a carving circle for adults in his company and took care of training children and young people in the art of carving. He even gave tips on the art of carving for the circle of the Eisenach automobile plant , which was headed by the sculptor Volker Beier.

Kurt Bertram made numerous carvings that were exhibited in the region and in the Karl-Marx-Stadt district , for example for the 750th anniversary celebration, the pioneer meeting or the days of Ore Mountains folk art, for district carving exhibitions or carving conferences.

Some of them are still exhibited today, for example in the Museum of Mining Folk Art in Schneeberg (Ore Mountains) .
