Kurt Beythien

Adolf Ernst Kurt Beythien (born September 12, 1897 in Dresden ; † September 4, 1974 there ) was a German composer and teacher .

Life

Kurt Beythien was the son of Adolf Beythien, the director of the city's chemical investigation office in Dresden . After attending secondary school in Dresden and voluntarily participating in the war in World War I, he studied music with Theobald Werner in Dresden from 1919 to 1924 , with Karl Hogrebe in Göttingen and with Hermann Poppen in Heidelberg, from 1920 to 1928 chemistry in Heidelberg, Göttingen and Dresden, From 1927 music studies with Kurt Striegler in Dresden and piano playing studies with Karl Fehling . He also heard lectures from Eugen Schmitz (music and opera history) and Theobald Werner (theory). After receiving his doctorate in 1929, he married the violinist Marianne Selle (1897–1971) in Dresden . Both taught private students in their apartment.

From 1929 he was chairman of the trade association in the trade building on Ostra-Allee (until 1945 home of the Dresden Philharmonic ).

From 1946 to 1965 he was a teacher (without pedagogical training) for chemistry and music at the Oberschule Dresden-Süd (today's Gymnasium Dresden-Plauen ).

His grave is in the Johannisfriedhof in Dresden-Tolkewitz.

The estate is kept in the Saxon State Library - Dresden State and University Library.
