Kurt Bretting
Kurt Bretting (born June 6, 1892 in Magdeburg , † May 30, 1918 near Merville ) was a German swimmer .
Bretting started for the SC Hellas Magdeburg and was one of the best German freestyle swimmers before the First World War. At the German Swimming Championships between 1910 and 1916 he won a total of four German championship titles in the 100 m freestyle. In 1912 he set a new world record for the 100 m freestyle in Brussels . But at the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 in the same year he could not win a medal and only finished fourth in the 100 m freestyle.
Kurt Bretting fell in World War I in France .
