Kurt Gottschald (born January 15, 1925 ) is a former German football player who played in 1949 in the DS-Liga , the highest league in GDR football .

Athletic career

Kurt Gottschald completed his short career in top football at the age of 24 with the "Central Sports Association (ZSG) Altenburg" . In 1949 this was one of the founding members of the soccer league of the East German German Sports Committee , the top division of the former East Zone . It was later referred to as the GDR Oberliga. Gottschald was intended as a striker and was also in the first league game of the ZSG in the 1949/50 season. In the home game against the company sports community (BSG) KWU Erfurt , which ended 1: 1, Gottschald was replaced by player- coach Herbert Klemigused on the half-right attack side. Up to the twelfth game day Gottschald was used in another five league games, in which he was used again as a striker with one exception (defense). There were no more DS League games for him.

In 1950 Gottschald joined the GDR Volkspolizei and played in the 1950/51 season with the SG Deutsche Volkspolizei Weimar in the third class of Thuringia . He was with the SG Thuringia national champion and promoted to the second-rate GDR league . Gottschald was there as a midfielder in 1951/52 and usually occupied the position of the left runner in 19 of 22 point games. At the beginning of the 1952/53 season, the SG DVP league team was transferred to Erfurt and continued playing there as SG DVP Erfurt. Gottschald kept his regular seat and position and was only absent from two GDR league games in 1952/53. As in the previous season, he scored a goal in the point games.

After a break of ten months, Gottschald did not appear again in the GDR league until February 1954, now again as a player in BSG Motor Altenburg . By the end of the 1953/54 season he was used in five league games. Then Gottschald played four more seasons with BSG Motor in the GDR league. Until 1956 he always had a regular place in the team and played 59 of the 65 league games played. He was still used as a midfielder, but only scored a point goal in the transition round in 1955 . In the 1957 season (calendar year game rhythm) the now 30-year-old Gottschald was only used in eight games in the GDR league, but was able to distinguish himself with two goals. At the end of the season, Motor Altenburg had to relegate from the GDR league and did not return to the second class for years. For Kurt Gottschald, relegation ended his career in higher-class football, in which he had made 117 point games and five goals.
