Kurt Guggisberg

Kurt Viktor Guggisberg (born January 24, 1907 in Rüeggisberg , † December 20, 1972 in Bern ; resident in Belp ) was a Swiss church historian.

After studying Protestant theology in Bern and Marburg , he became a pastor in Frauenkappelen in 1932 and received his doctorate in theology in 1934. In 1944 he received the professorship for general church history and denominational studies at the University of Bern , which he headed from 1954 to 1955 as rector . From 1952 to 1956 he was President of the Historical Society of the Canton of Bern .

As a researcher he worked with Karl Ludwig von Haller , Jeremias Gotthelf , his son Albert Bitzius and Philipp Emanuel von Fellenberg . His main work is the Bernese church history from 1958. In 1960 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Basel . Part of his estate is kept in the Bern Burger Library and in the Bern State Archives.
