Kurt Seelmann (entrepreneur)

Kurt Seelmann (born June 7, 1937 or 1939 in Bamberg ) is a German building contractor . In 2008 he was awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his services to the Upper Franconian craft .

Life

Seelmann successfully passed his journeyman's examination as a bricklayer. In 1959 he became an engineer for structural engineering at the Coburg State Building School , followed by a postgraduate diploma in 1981. He joined his parents' company, Konrad Seelmann Bauunternehmen GmbH, and later became its managing partner.

Seelmann was head master of the construction guild in Bamberg from 1975 to 1989 and also from 1979 to 1989 district craftsman for the district craftsmen in Bamberg. Since 1984 he has been a member of the general assembly of the Chamber of Crafts for Upper Franconia and from 1989 he was Vice President of the Chamber of Crafts for Upper Franconia until he was elected President on June 17, 1992. He gained great recognition for the further development of the Upper Franconian handicraft that he promoted. Among other things, a competence center for manufacturing technology was created.

Seelmann volunteered as a judge at the labor , state labor , social and administrative court and as chairman of the Bamberg-Gartenstadt citizens' association . Seelmann was also involved as a board member of the “Upper Franconian Offensive” initiative for the overall economic development of Upper Franconia. For two years, from the beginning of 1998 until its dissolution in late 1999, he was a member of the Bavarian Senate .

Because of his services to the Upper Franconian economy and the craft, he received the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany from the Bavarian Prime Minister Günther Beckstein in April 2008 . He is also a bearer of the Bavarian Order of Merit .
