Kurt Selle

Kurt Friedrich Wilhelm Selle (born January 7, 1932 in Bremen ; † May 27, 2007 in Braunschweig ) was a German high school teacher and classical philologist .

Life

Selle studied from 1951 at the University of Göttingen and was a member of the Holzminda Göttingen fraternity . From 1970 to 1980 he held the office of chairman of the old manor. He began his school career as a teacher for Latin and sports at the Wilhelm-Gymnasium (Braunschweig) . In 1975 he became senior director of studies and head of the large school in Wolfenbüttel ( "Guelpherbytanum" ). From 1981 to 1986 he headed the Lower Saxony Classical Philology Association and from 1989 to 1993 the German Classical Philology Association .

During his tenure as chairman of the association, the establishment of the regional associations in the new federal states took place . He advocated the ancient languages in the canon of subjects in reunified Germany. He has received numerous awards for his services, including a. with honorary membership in the German Classical Philology Association. On the occasion of his 70th birthday, Peter Lohe paid tribute to him in a contribution in the Forum Classicum .
